Silicone rubber is a high-performance elastomer characterized by an unusual combination of properties. These properties range from high-temperature performance to durability, excellent electrical insulation properties as well as its transparency.
Silicone rubber can be found in a wide variety of products, including voltage line insulators; automotive applications; cooking, baking, and food storage products; apparel such as undergarments, sportswear, and footwear; electronics; medical devices and implants; and in home repair and hardware, in products such as silicone sealants.
Silicone rubber offers good resistance to extreme temperatures, being able to operate normally from −100 to 300 °C. Heat-curable, high-temperature-vulcanizing (HTV / HCR) elastomers are higher viscosity rubbers that are mixed and processed like other elastomers. They are cured at elevated temperatures, either by means of organic peroxides or with a platinum catalyst.
